W&L Volleyball Wins Both Matches at Averett Invitational

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won both of its matches in the second day of the Averett Invitational, first knocking off Queens 30-13, 30-25, 30-21, and then defeating Meredith by a score of 30-18, 30-17, 28-30, 30-14.

In the victory over Queens, W&L was paced by freshman setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South), who notched 10 service aces, which ties the Washington and Lee record for service aces in a match, a record owned by Christine Gladysz '06 and junior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names). Senior outside hitter Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) tallied 12 kills and senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) had 15 digs. Junior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) contributed 12 digs and a team-high 21 assists.

In the win over Meredith, Edmonson led the Generals with 20 digs and Hudock added 17 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Kassie Bagley (Midlothian, Va./James River) registered 13 kills and three blocks, while freshman setter Megan Steinhardt (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park) had 28 assists and seven service aces. Freshman outside hitter Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) and sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) amassed 12 kills each.

The Generals (16-4, 6-0 ODAC) return to action on Tuesday as they host Sweet Briar at 6:30 pm.
