MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team split a pair of matches in the second day of the Maryville Invitational. The Generals fell to 25th-ranked Rhodes by a score of 30-22, 24-30, 23-30, 15-30, then downed Maryville, 30-22, 30-17, 30-26.
In the loss to Rhodes (23-10), the Generals were led by junior right side Jess Hudock (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names), who tallied 15 kills, 15 digs and two service aces. Senior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted 18 digs to break her own school record for season digs, while junior setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) amassed 25 assists and two service aces.
In the win over Maryville (23-11), W&L was again paced Hudock, who posted 11 kills, 10 digs and six blocks. Freshman middle blocker Rachael Phillips (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) recorded 10 kills and eight blocks and sophomore outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) registered 15 digs. Freshman setter Kristi Stevens (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) racked up 22 assists and five service aces, while Edmonson tallied 26 digs to improve her now-record total to 543 digs for the season.
Washington and Lee (24-7) returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a 6:30 pm match in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.
