LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior midfielder Kay Dyt (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored a pair of goals and freshman forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) added one goal and two assists as the Washington and Lee field hockey team downed Roanoke, 6-0, in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals opened the scoring early in the first half when Armstrong found the cage off an assist from junior midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) at 2:03. Dyt followed with a goal less than four minutes later and sophomore forward Melissa Dolan (Centennial, Colo./Kent Denver) tallied a goal off an assist from sophomore forward Christina Merchant (Midlothian, Va./Collegiate) in the 28th minute to give the Generals a 3-0 lead at the half.
W&L (14-5) extended its lead in the second half when Dyt struck again, scoring off an assist from Armstrong at 37:24. Goals by freshman midfielder Alex Caritis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and senior defender Kim Babbitt (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) stretched the margin to the 6-0 final.
Junior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and freshman Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) split time in goal for W&L, combining to make four saves. Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Paz (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) made 11 saves for the Maroons (3-13).
The Generals will face Eastern Mennonite in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Friday in Lynchburg, Va. The game time has yet to be determined.
