Van Devender's Two Tallies Lead W&L Women's Soccer To 2-0 Win Over E&H In ODAC Quarterfinals

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) registered two goals as the 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to 18 with a 2-0 win over Emory & Henry in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

With her two scores, Van Devender tied the W&L record for points in a season (Karin Treese, 1997) with 51 points off 20 goals and 11 assists. She scored a goal in each half, first finding the back of the net off a feed from junior forward Martha Caulkins (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) in the fifth minute. Van Devender then notched her second tally unassisted at 55:50 for the 2-0 final.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) played the duration for W&L in goal, picking up her 14th shutout. Junior Meredith Ledford (Chattanooga, Tenn./Chattanooga Christian) and freshman Megan Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seneca Valley) split time in goal for the Wasps (9-10), combining to make 10 saves.

The Generals improved to 16-0-2 on the season with the win and advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 ODAC Tournament. They will face the winner of the Roanoke vs. Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday at Watt Field. The game time has yet to be determined
