LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 17 by clinching the top-seed and home-field advantage in the ODAC Tournament with a 2-0 win over Eastern Mennonite on Tuesday afternoon at Watt Field.
Sophomore forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) gave the Generals an early 1-0 lead when she notched an unassisted tally in the 12th minute. W&L upped its lead in the second half as senior forward Sarah Helms (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) scored off a feed from Van Devender at 77:53.
The Generals, who maintained an unbeaten 9-0-2 record in conference play, improved to 15-0-2 overall on the season. The Royals fell to 12-4 overall and 9-2 in the ODAC.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) made one save for W&L, while senior goalkeeper Joy Shaiebly (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) registered five saves for EMU.
With the win, the Generals secured the top-seed in the ODAC Tournament and will host eighth-seeded Emory & Henry on Saturday at Watt Field. The game time is yet to be determined.
