LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team rallied for two late second half scores to come away with its seventh-straight win in a 2-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.
Virginia Wesleyan got on the board first, jumping out to a 1-0 lead off a goal by Chrissy Clancy (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) assisted by Megan May (McLean, Va./McLean) in the 38th minute. The Marlins held on to the lead until sophomore defender Liz Garson (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) registered the game-tying goal off an assist from senior forward Amy Volkmann (Norfolk, Va./Granby) at 67:38. The Generals found the go-ahead goal less than one minute later when junior midfielder Kay Dyt (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) tallied an unassisted goal at 68:29.
With the win, the Generals improved to 13-3 overall and an unblemished 7-0 in ODAC action, while VWC falls to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Junior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) tallied one save in goal for W&L, while Megan Koster (Vienna, Va./Oakton) notched four saves in goal for the Marlins.
The Generals return to action on Sunday when they take on Christopher Newport at 1:30 pm at the W&L Turf Field.
