LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee field hockey team notched its sixth-straight win and fourth-straight shutout with a 2-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday evening at the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals notched both of their scores in the opening half with the first strike coming off an unassisted tally by freshman forward Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) at 16:31. Sophomore defender Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) upped the W&L lead to 2-0 less than five minutes later when she registered a goal off an assist from senior forward Amy Volkmann (Norfolk, Va./Granby).
The W&L defense protected the 2-0 lead in the second-half, allowing no goals by the Royals, en route to improving to 12-3 overall, 6-0 in the ODAC. Junior Tara Rubenstein (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) racked up eight saves in goal for the Generals.
With the loss, EMU falls to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the ODAC. Senior goalkeeper Katie Moyer (Blooming Glen, Pa./Christopher Dock) made four saves for the Royals.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they take on Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm at the W&L Turf Field.
