W&L Men's Soccer Plays Virginia Wesleyan To 1-1 Double-Overtime Tie

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The 18th-ranked Washington and Lee men's soccer team battled Virginia Wesleyan to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in ODAC action on Saturday morning at Watt Field.

The Marlins (9-3-2, 3-2-2) notched the first score of the game when freshman forward Brendan Massie (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) registered an unassisted goal in the 17th minute. The Generals responded with the equalizer at 28:52 when senior midfielder Rhett McCraw (Greenville, S.C./Christ Church Episcopal) scored on a penalty kick, but neither team could find the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.

Washington and Lee outshot Virginia Wesleyan, 20-4, and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Jim Tartaglia (Richmond, Va./J.R. Tucker) made two saves in goal for W&L, while junior Kyle Williams (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) stopped seven would-be goals for VWC.

The Generals (9-1-2, 4-1-1) continue conference action on Wednesday when they travel to Emory, Va., to take on Emory & Henry at 4:00 pm.
