AMHERST, Va. -- Sophomore forward Erica Giordano (Cranford, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) notched two goals as the 18th-ranked Washington and Lee women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 12 games with a 6-0 shutout of Sweet Briar on Tuesday afternoon in Amherst, Va.
The Generals opened the scoring just 49 seconds into the contest when senior forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore defender Marisa Van Brunt (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville). Senior forward Sarah Helms (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) registered a goal off an assist from Wiltshire at 30:08 to give W&L a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Blue and White scored four unanswered goals in the second half, including two by Giordano, to come away with their 12-straight shutout. W&L was led by Giordano's two goals, while Wiltshire added one goal and one assist.
Senior Emily Binns (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) played the duration of the contest in the goal for W&L, but did not face any shots. Kristen Johnson made 11 saves for Sweet Briar (2-10, 0-8).
The Generals (10-0-2, 6-0-2) take a break from ODAC play this weekend when they travel to Rocky Mount, N.C., to take on North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday at 1pm.
