LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team went 2-1 at the W&L Quadrangular on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center. The Generals defeated Centennial-rival Gettysburg 34-16 and Waynesburg 43-9, but lost to Wilkes 22-12.
W&L (2-1, 1-0) was led by sophomore Jesse Sataloff (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh), who went 3-0 at the 174-pound weight class. He defeated Gettysburg's James Stevenson, 12-4 and Waynesburg's Tyler Allen, 7-2, before downing Bill Bleiler of Wilkes, 14-7.
Sophomore David Shubick (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) and sophomore Anthony Boniello (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) also went 3-0 with one of the wins coming via forfeit. Shubick, competing at 133 pounds, beat Waynesburg's James Weishaar 14-6 and Ken Nagle of Wilkes 10-8. Boniello wrestled at 165 pounds, knocking off Gettysburg's Josh Kaplan, 4-1, and D.J. Giancola of Wilkes, 9-3.
The Generals return to the mat on Sat., Jan. 14 when they host the W&L Invitational. The meet begins at 10:00 am.
