W&L Women's Basketball Edged By Lynchburg, 69-63

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Lynchburg overcame an 11-point first half deficit to defeat Washington and Lee 69-63 in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.

The Generals (4-9, 3-7) jumped out to an 11-2 lead with 14:51 left in the first half and extended their advantage to 29-18 with 3:55 remaining, but the Hornets (5-8, 3-5) went on an 18-4 run to cut the deficit to 33-31 at the break.

In the second half, W&L retook control of the game and slowly extended its advantage back to 10 points at 43-33 with 14:58 remaining on a basket by freshman forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton). However, Lynchburg again chipped away at the lead and tied the game at 47-47 at the 9:22 mark. The Hornets then took the lead for good at 61-59 with 2:31 left on a jumper by junior forward Stephanie Howell. Freshman guard Jessica Pierce iced the game by going 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 37 seconds.

W&L was led by sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who scored a game-high 17 points and collected four steals. Junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) added nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

Pierce finished with team-highs 15 points and five assists, while senior forward Lacey Currle tallied 12 points, nine rebounds and five steals.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Sunday when it travels to Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a 3:00 pm contest.
