HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Eastern Mennonite had five players reach double figures in scoring in posting a 98-86 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Royals (7-6, 3-4) led 51-40 at halftime and increased their lead to as many as 19 points at 74-55 with 8:41 remaining in the second half. The Generals (2-9, 2-4) chipped away at the deficit and pulled to within 94-86 with 1:04 left, but could get no closer.
In a physical game, the teams were whistled for a total of 65 fouls. Eastern Mennonite was 32-of-42 (.762) from the free throw line and 31-of-62 (.500) from the field. W&L shot 28-of-39 (.718) from the charity stripe and 27-of-54 (.500) from the floor.
W&L was led by sophomore forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who notched 18 points, a career-high 15 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Junior guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) also scored 18 points, while sophomore guard John Mumper (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) added 17 points and five assists.
Eastern Mennonite was led by sophomore guard Brad Parkes' 21 points and six rebounds, while senior forward EJ Arrington scored 18 points. Sophomore guard Korey Whiting tallied 17 points and eight assists.
Washington and Lee returns to the court on Saturday at Lynchburg. The game begins at 4:00 pm.
