W&L Women's Basketball Falls To Roanoke, 75-58

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Erin Hanson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) tallied 14 points and 12 rebounds to help the Roanoke women's basketball team to a 75-58 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC action on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Maroons (6-5, 3-4) jumped out to a 16-7 lead with 13:30 left in the first half and extended their advantage to as many as 14 points (33-19) with 5:55 left. W&L (4-7, 3-5) pulled to within nine points at 41-32 with 15 seconds remaining in the half, but junior forward Ashley Nesbit (Bowdoin, Maine/Mt. Ararat) knocked down a jumper to give Roanoke a 43-32 lead at the break.

Roanoke would maintain a double-digit lead throughout the entire second half as it shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field. The Generals shot just 36.2 percent (21-of-58), but held a 42-39 edge in rebounds.

W&L was led by junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School), who tied her career-high with 26 points and pulled down a season-best 16 rebounds. She also blocked four shots. Sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) added 15 points, five rebounds and a team-high three steals, while senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) chipped in with eight rebounds and six assists.

Hanson was aided by senior guard Veronica Kelly (Westport, Conn./Staples), who recorded 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Junior guard Cindy McGraw (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) had 13 points and five rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Thursday when it travels to No. 15 Randolph-Macon for a 7:00 pm contest.
