LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) scored two goals to lead the Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout win over Hampden-Sydney in ODAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Palmer gave the Generals (4-2, 2-1) a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal at the 13:21 mark. The game remained 1-0 until sophomore forward Travis Short (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) notched an unassisted tally with just 30 seconds left in the first half to give W&L a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Palmer then scored on a penalty kick at the 64:24 mark to give the Generals a 3-0 lead. Junior midfielder Kyle Garcia (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) ended the scoring at 88:53 when he scored off a feed from sophomore midfielder Josh Dodds (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar).
W&L outshot the Tigers, 15-4, and held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) made two saves for the Generals, while freshman netminder Ben Marchetti (Richmond, Va./Benedictine) stopped six shots for Hampden-Sydney (4-4-1, 1-2).
Washington and Lee returns to the field on Wednesday at Mary Washington. The game begins at 4:00 pm.
