LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore midfielder Kendall Korte (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) scored a school-record four goals to help lead Washington and Lee to a 7-0 win over Bridgewater in ODAC field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.
Korte gave the Generals (3-3, 3-0) a 1-0 lead at the 11:42 mark on an unassisted goal. Less than four minutes later, senior forward Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) extended the lead to 2-0 when she scored off a feed from freshman midfielder Christina Merchant (Midlothian, Va./Collegiate). The Generals took their 2-0 lead into halftime.
Korte notched her second goal off an assist from sophomore forward Maggie Nugent (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) just 1:35 into the second half. Korte tallied her third goal off another assist from Nugent at 47:39 to push W&L's advantage to 4-0. She then scored an unassisted goal at 59:06 to make the score 5-0.
W&L senior goalkeepers Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Gladwyne, Pa./Agnes Irwin) each played 35 minutes and combined to make two saves. Senior Frankee Waldron (Orrington, Maine/Bangor) and sophomore Jennifer Midgette (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) combined to stop 16 shots for the Eagles (3-5, 1-2).
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Mary Baldwin at 6:00 pm.
