W&L Women's Soccer Knocks Off Hollins, 10-0

ROANOKE, Va. -- Freshman midfielder Katie Kern (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) scored two goals and junior midfielder Blair Haws (Fort Worth, Texas/Trinity Valley) tallied a goal and two assists as Washington and Lee shutout Hollins University, 10-0, in ODAC women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon in Roanoke, Va.

Kern gave the Generals (4-1-1, 3-0) a 1-0 lead just 1:17 into the game when she scored off an assist from junior midfielder Jamie Dorsey (Cockeysville, Md./McDonogh School). Less than five minutes later, freshman Erica Giordano (Cranford, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) scored off a feed from junior forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) to give the W&L a 2-0 lead. Kern then notched her second goal of the game at 12:15 off a pass from junior midfielder Cara Burton (Spring, Texas/Oak Klein) to make the score 3-0. W&L would head into halftime with a 6-0 advantage.

W&L junior goalkeeper Emily Binns (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) played all 90 minutes to pick up her first win of the season. Lindsay Lucas also played all 90 minutes for Hollins (2-3, 0-2) and made 16 saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 3:00 pm.
