LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee exploded for three goals in the opening 5:32 of the game en route to a 7-1 win over Emory & Henry in ODAC men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (3-2, 1-1) opened the scoring at the 3:44 mark as sophomore forward Travis Short (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) found the net off an assist by senior midfielder Brett Strohsacker (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion). Short then assisted on a goal by sophomore forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) just 20 seconds later and sophomore midfielder Josh Dodds (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Mar) ended the stretch with a goal off another Strohsacker assist at the 5:32 mark. Palmer scored again at the 11:35 mark off a Short assist and senior midfielder Ryan Light (Clarksburg, W.Va./Robert C. Byrd) scored two second half goals in the six-goal victory.
Emory & Henry (4-6, 0-3) got on the board at the 62:38 mark as sophomore forward Elliott Anderson (Ooltewah, Tenn./Chattanooga Science & Arts) scored off an assist from junior midfielder Stephen Devine (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit).
Short led the Generals with one goal and a school-record tying three assists, while Palmer and Light scored two goals each. Strohsacker added two assists. Sophomore Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) played all 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves.
Sophomore E.J. Watkins (Potomac, Md./McLean) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wasps, notching eight saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Hampden-Sydney for an 11:00 am contest.
