W&L Field Hockey Defeats Lynchburg, 3-1

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) scored two goals to help lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Lynchburg on Wednesday evening at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (2-3, 2-0) took a 1-0 lead at the 16:04 mark when sophomore forward Maggie Nugent (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) scored off an assist from senior forward S.B. Northen (Richmond, Va./Collegiate). W&L extended to a 2-0 lead just 31 seconds later when Beall scored the first of her two goals and went into halftime with its 2-0 advantage.

Beall then notched her second goal of the contest just 51 seconds into the second half to give W&L a 3-0 lead. Lynchburg (2-5, 0-1) closed to within 3-1 on an unassisted goal by junior attacker Melissa Seipel (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) at 58:52, but wouldn't get any closer.

W&L senior goalkeepers Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Gladwyne, Pa./Agnes Irwin) each played 35 minutes and combined to make three saves. Junior netminder Elizabeth Foskey (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) stopped four shots for the Hornets.
