LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team defeated Guilford College, 30-5, 30-15, 30-23, in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
The Generals (3-2, 1-0) were paced by freshman outside hitter Laura Maurer (Sparta, N.J./Pope John Paul XXIII), who tallied 11 kills and four digs. Senior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) notched seven kills, four blocks and two service aces in just one game of action, while sophomore setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) amassed 28 assists and five digs.
With the loss, Guilford fell to 2-5 overall, 0-1 in the ODAC.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a tri-match with the host WildCats and Southern Virginia. W&L plays RMWC at 11:00 am, then plays SVU at 1:30 pm.
