WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Junior forward Jayme Dinsmore scored two goals to help lead the Catholic University field hockey team to a 7-0 win over Washington and Lee on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.
The Cardinals (3-1) took a 1-0 lead just 2:56 into the game on an unassisted goal by senior forward Christy Engstrom and extended their lead to 2-0 less than five minutes late when Dinsmore scored off a pass from Engstrom. Catholic would tally four more goals to take a 6-0 lead into halftime. Dinsmore ended the scoring with her second goal of the game at the 65:33 mark.
Catholic outshot the Generals (0-2), 17-2, and held a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Senior goalkeepers Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Gladwyne, Pa./Agnes Irwin) combined to make seven saves for the Generals, while freshman netminder Irene Jorden stopped one shot for the Cardinals.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when they host Randolph-Macon at 1:00 pm.
