FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team opened up its 2005 season with a 3-0 loss to Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon at the Frostburg State Invitational.
The Blue Jays (4-0) took a 1-0 lead just 1:42 into the game on an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Kiley Keelin. JHU extended its lead to 2-0 when junior forward Laurie Baumann scored off an assist by junior midfielder Jessi McKenzie at the 20:03 mark. The Blue Jays then ended the scoring when sophomore forward Kim Lane scored on a corner kick at 56:06.
The Generals (0-1) were outshot, 16-5, and each team had four corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) made five saves in her collegiate debut for the Generals, while senior netminder Jen Goebel stopped three shots for Johns Hopkins.
Washington and Lee returns to the field on Sunday when it plays the College of Wooster in the second day of the Frostburg State Invitational. The game is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
