W&L Men's Basketball Falls to Emory & Henry, 87-78

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Washington and Lee committed 35 turnovers and shot just 56.8 percent (21-of-37) from the foul line in falling to Emory & Henry, 87-78, in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.

The Generals (2-21, 0-16) trailed by as many as 13 points (35-22) in the first half, but used a 20-0 run over both halves to assume a 56-45 lead with 14:40 remaining in the game. From there, the Wasps slowly chipped away the W&L advantage until taking the lead for good at 71-70 on a jumper by sophomore guard Korey Townsend (South Boston, Va./Halifax County) with 5:59 remaining in the game.

Three players from each team fouled out as a total of 56 fouls were whistled on the two teams.

W&L was led by senior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), who tallied 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior forward David Will (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) notched 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, while freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) posted 13 points and four steals. Sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fa./Ridgewood) chipped in with 12 points.

Emory & Henry (9-14, 6-10) was paced by Townsend, who scored 24 points and was 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. Freshman guard Mike Koury (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) added 13 points.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a 7:00 pm game.
