LEXINGTON, Va. -- Sophomore center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds to help lead Washington and Lee to a 69-55 win over Lynchburg in ODAC women's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.
The Hornets (7-14, 4-12) raced out to a 14-6 lead with 15:51 remaining in the first half and maintained their lead until the 5:50 mark when freshman forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson Secondary) hit a layup to tie the score at 25-25. W&L (11-11, 7-10) took a 30-27 lead with 1:41 left, but Lynchburg recaptured the lead at 32-30 heading into halftime.
The Generals retook the lead at 34-32 with 18:45 left in the second stanza and would never relinquish their advantage for the remainder of the game. Their lead grew to as many as 18 points (66-48) with 4:41 remaining.
W&L forced 24 Lynchburg turnovers and held a 40-39 edge in rebounds.
Junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) scored a game-high 21 points and dished out four assists. Senior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) totaled 13 points and a game-high seven assists, while Kane finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
Lynchburg was led by sophomore center Caroline Wesley (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame), who had team-highs of nine points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Junior forward Lacie Currle (Fairfax, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and sophomore forward Caroline Cubbage (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) each chipped in with eight points.
W&L returns to the court on Saturday at 2:00 pm when it hosts Hollins University.
