W&L Men's Basketball Defeated by Lynchburg, 81-72

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Lynchburg College hit 35-of-44 free throws in defeating Washington and Lee, 81-72, in ODAC men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Hornets (10-12, 7-8) closed the first half on a 10-2 run to assume a nine-point lead (34-25) at the break. W&L chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to just three points (56-53) with 8:32 remaining, but the Hornets again pulled away, going on a 12-2 run to post a 68-55 lead with just 3:23 remaining. LC shot 30 of its 44 foul shots in the second half.

The Generals (2-20, 0-15) shot 26-of-58 (.448) from the floor, but could not overcome a 35-16 point differential at the foul line.

W&L was led by freshman forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who tallied 15 points and five rebounds. Senior guard Mike Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier), sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) and freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) each notched 14 points.

Lynchburg was paced by senior forward Ryan Pehanik (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), who totaled 22 points and hit 11-of-12 foul shots. Junior forward David Schaeffer (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) added 12 points and seven boards.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Emory & Henry for a 7:00 pm contest.
