LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Sophomore guard Annie Johnson scored a career-high 32 points to lift Randolph-Macon Woman's College to a 69-59 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (10-11, 6-10) led 29-25 at the break and held a slim 42-41 lead with 8:22 remaining in the game. However, RMWC would go on an 11-3 run over the next 3:24 to assume a 53-44 lead with 4:58 left. W&L cut the lead to 53-49 on a jumper by freshman forward Hayley James (Mt. Sidney, Va./Fort Defiance) with 3:34 remaining but could get no closer as the WildCats hit 14-of-16 free throws the rest of the way.
W&L was led by sophomore center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School), who totaled 19 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) tied a career-high with 14 points and dished five assists, while James notched a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) added 10 points.
Johnson went 15-of-18 from the foul line and scored 28 of her 32 points in the second half. Her effort was supplemented by junior forward Megan Stensrud, who tallied 18 points and eight rebounds.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday as it hosts Lynchburg for a 4:30 pm contest.
