CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team went 1-1 at the Baptist Bible Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon in Clarks Summit, Pa. It defeated Baptist Bible, 50-6, but lost to Centennial Conference-rival Muhlenberg, 34-19.
Sophomore Max Courtney (Jeffersonville, Pa./LaSalle College) and freshmen David Shubick (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) and Jesup Sataloff (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) all went 2-0 on the day.
Courtney, wrestling at 184 pounds, defeated Josh Vaught of Baptist Bible, 9-1, and Brett Galloway of Muhlenberg, 5-0. At 125 pounds, Shubick beat Tim Sullivan of Baptist Bible, 14-4, and pinned Muhlenberg's Michael Tenenhaus in 56 seconds. Sataloff, competing at 174 pounds, pinned Seth Hague of Baptist Bible in 4:57 and knocked off Frank Pepe of Muhlenberg, 17-4.
W&L returns to the mat on Saturday at the Centennial Conference Championships at Muhlenberg College. The meet begins at 10:00 am.
