LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) recorded 23 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks to lead Washington and Lee to a 73-53 victory over Guilford in ODAC women's basketball action on Thursday evening at the Warner Center.
Guilford (2-5, 1-1) led 18-17 with 7:38 left in the first half, but the Generals (3-5, 2-3) went on a 18-6 run over the next 6:26 to take a 35-24 lead. W&L headed into halftime with a 37-29 edge.
The Generals opened the second half on a 20-4 spurt to take a 57-33 lead with 11:52 remaining and pushed their advantage to as many as 26 points on three different occasions en route to the 20-point win.
W&L shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the field, while the Quakers shot just 21.7 percent (18-83) for the game. The Generals also held a 58-41 edge in rebounding.
Hunsinger was aided by sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick's (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) 14 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) chipped in with 11 points and a career-high eight assists.
Guilford was led by senior guard Jennifer King's (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) 14 points and seven rebounds. Freshman forward Kristine Ellis (Winston-Salem, N.C./East Forsyth) added nine points and six boards, while freshman forward Heather Koehler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) tallied six points.
Washington and Lee has off for exams and the holiday break before returning to the court on Tue., Jan. 3 at Virginia Wesleyan. The game begins at 7:00 pm.
