W&L Women’s Basketball Defeats EMU, 65-40

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Washington and Lee jumped out to a 14-2 lead and never looked back in claiming a 65-40 victory over Eastern Mennonite in ODAC women's basketball action on Tuesday evening at the EMU Commons.

The Generals (2-5, 1-3) pushed their lead to as many as 16 points (21-5) in the first half, but the Royals sliced the advantage to just eight points (29-21) at halftime.

W&L then held EMU to just five second half field goals and used a 21-4 run midway through the half to post a commanding 59-33 lead with 3:29 to play.

Eastern Mennonite shot just 21.4 percent (12-56) from the field, while W&L shot 43.5 percent (27-62), including 53.3 percent during the second stanza. The Generals also posted a 54-33 rebounding advantage.

Junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) led the way with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, while senior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) and sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) registered 12 points each. Sophomore point guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) added six points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

EMU (4-2, 1-1) was paced by Jolene Kratz, who notched 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior all-conference center Amanda Renalds was held to just nine points and seven rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday evening as it hosts Guilford for a 7:00 pm contest.
