W&L Swimming Splits With Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee men's and women's swimming teams split with Gettysburg College on Sunday afternoon in Gettysburg, Pa. The men improved to 3-0 with a 126-79 win, while the women dropped to 7-1 with a 133-72 loss.

In the men's meet, the quartet of freshmen Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Lansdale Catholic) and Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell), senior Reed Evans (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) and sophomore Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:41.70.

Junior Michael Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal) won a pair of individual events. He placed first in both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:02.65) and 100-yard backstroke (55.51), while sophomore Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) captured the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.06.

McGlaston, Evans, Sweet, and Ginder teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a pool record time of 1:27.84.

In the women's meet, the foursome of sophomore Jess Cobb (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), freshman Jessica Shaw (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park), sophomore Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches), and freshman Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) were victorious in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:57.43.

Shaw won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:14.03 and freshman Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Maggie Walker Governor's) touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.40).

Both W&L swimming teams return to the pool on Saturday when they travel to Mary Washington for a 2:00 pm meet.
