W&L Women's Basketball Falls To Bridgewater, 70-47

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Bridgewater College forced 29 Washington and Lee turnovers and scored 38 points off those turnovers in posting a 70-47 win over the Generals in ODAC women's basketball team action on Wednesday evening at the Warner Center.

W&L (1-3, 0-1) led 11-9 with 12:55 remaining in the first half, but the Eagles (2-2, 1-0) went on a 16-2 run over the next 4:01 to take a 25-13 lead. Bridgewater extended its advantage to as many as 17 points (35-18) with 3:31 left before heading into halftime with a 37-23 edge.

The Generals opened the second half on a 14-6 run to pull within six points at 43-37 with 11:43 left, but the Eagles responded with a 20-5 spurt over the next 8:25 to push their lead to 21 points (63-42) with 5:18 remaining in the second half en route to the win.

W&L shot 37 percent (20-53) from the field, while Bridgewater shot 40 percent (24-60). Both teams hauled in 37 rebounds.

The Generals were led by sophomore forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who scored a team-high 16 points, dished out a team-best four assists and collected a game-high five steals. Junior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School) notched her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 rebounds to go with her game-high five blocks. Sophomore guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) tallied eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

The Eagles received 16 points from freshman forward Jennifer Saunders (Richmond, Va./Monacan). Junior guard Amy Childs (Covington, Va./Alleghany) notched 13 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and four steals.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Saturday when it hosts No. 10 Randolph-Macon at 2:00 pm.
