W&L Men's Basketball Falls to Bridgewater, 64-56

BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater College held a 46-27 rebounding advantage and hit 29 free throws en route to a 64-56 win over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles (3-2, 1-0) led by as many as 14 points (24-10) in the first half, but an 11-0 W&L run over the final 4:06 of the first half and initial 1:38 of the second half gave the Generals a 29-28 lead with 18:22 left to play. The game remained nip-and-tuck for the next 11 minutes until the Eagles pushed out to a 10-point lead on four occasions in the final 5:28 of the game.

Bridgewater shot just 30.0 percent (15-50) from the floor in the game, but outscored the Generals (0-6, 0-1) 29-6 at the foul line.

W&L was led by sophomore forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) added 13 points.

Bridgewater was paced by forward Clay Michael's 16 points and nine rebounds. Guards Josh Maupin and Jay Strotman chipped in with 10 points each.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 4:30 pm contest.
