W&L Men's Basketball Falls to John Carroll, 86-56

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The John Carroll University men's basketball team shot 45 free throws and forced 31 turnovers by Washington and Lee in an 86-56 win over the Generals in the opening round of the Rochester Tournament on Saturday night in Rochester, N.Y.

W&L (0-4) jumped out to a 7-2 lead with 16:29 remaining in the first half, but the Blue Streaks (3-0) went on a 22-2 run over the next 6:51 to take a 24-9 lead and would maintain a double-digit advantage for the rest of the game.

The Generals shot 39 percent from the field (20-of-51) and grabbed 42 rebounds, while John Carroll shot 50 percent (29-of-58) and pulled down 33 boards.

W&L was led by sophomore forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who scored a team-high 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, and collected three steals. Freshman forward Ryan Owens (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade) tallied 10 points, seven boards, and three blocks.

For John Carroll, sophomore guards Tony DiMichele and John Curran each netted 13 points.

Washington and Lee returns to the court on Sunday afternoon against either Eastern Connecticut or Rochester in the consolation game at 1:00 pm.
