W&L Women's Soccer Falls To Lynchburg, 1-0

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior defender Kelly Vornadore (Springfield, Va./Bishop Ireton) scored an unassisted tally at the 68:10 mark to lift the third-seeded Lynchburg women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over second-seeded Washington and Lee in the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.

Following a Hornets corner kick, the ball remained loose in the Generals' box until Vornadore fired a shot into the back of the W&L net.

The Generals had a number of scoring chances in the first half, including a shot by senior midfielder Gina Von Sternberg (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) which was kicked towards the far corner of the net, but Lynchburg senior netminder Katie DeLorenzo (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Morris Catholic) made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.

Both teams fired off nine shots, while the Hornets held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.

W&L freshman goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) made three saves and DeLorenzo stopped five shots.

Lynchburg improved to 15-3-2 and advances to the ODAC Championship Game, while the Generals fell to 13-2-3 and will wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
