W&L Competes in 2005 Ursinus Fall Brawl

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team competed at the Ursinus Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals were led by sophomore Jesup Sataloff (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and freshman John Christopher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) who each went 3-1 to finish second in their weight class. Junior Max Courtney (Jeffersonville, Pa./LaSalle College) and sophomore Peter Lawrence (Greenwich, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee) both went 2-2 and placed fourth in their weight class.

Sataloff, competing at 174 pounds, defeated Colin McAuliffe of Stevens Tech (12-5) and Muhlenberg's Mike Horn (3-2) to advance to the semifinals. He then pinned Steve Johnson of York College in 1:50 before being pinned in 4:36 by Greg Osgoodby of The College of New Jersey in the finals.

Christopher wrestled at 285 pounds and knocked off Brett Jankos of The College of New Jersey, 10-6, and York's Rob Ragona, 5-3, to advance to the semifinals. He then defeated Princeton's Kris Berr, 3-2, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Luke Panizzi of York in the finals.

Courtney, competing at 184 pounds, pinned Bucknell's Tim Mauritz in 1:03 and defeated York's Kevin Ruff, 10-4. He was then pinned in 48 seconds by Mike Troutman of Ursinus College in the semifinals and by Pat Cross of the College of New Jersey (3:28) in the third place match.

Lawrence wrestled at 149 pounds and knocked off Princeton's Matt Collins, 10-2, and Messiah's Alex Broadwater, 9-6. He then lost 7-6 to Joe DeCampo of Muhlenberg in the semifinals and was pinned in 3:27 by Ken Laird of Waynesburg in the third place match.

The Generals return to the mat on Sun., Dec. 4 at the Scranton Invitational. The meet begins at 9:00 am.
