LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Jane Beall (Richmond, Va./James River) scored two goals, including her 35th career goal to set a new school record, to help lead the Washington and Lee field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.
The Generals (6-5) dented the scoreboard with 8:52 gone-by when sophomore forward Maggie Nugent (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) scored off a pass from junior forward Amy Volkmann (Norfolk, Va./Granby). Beall gave W&L a 2-0 lead at 12:31 when she scored off a feed from Volkmann.
The Eagles (4-9) cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 54:22 mark on a penalty shot by senior forward Brynn Maguire (Montauk, N.Y./East Hampton), but Beall ended the scoring just 1:20 later on her record-breaking goal.
Mary Washington outshot W&L, 8-7, and held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.
W&L senior goalkeepers Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and Elise Gelinas (Gladwyne, Pa./Agnes Irwin) each played 35 minutes and combined to make four saves. Junior netminder Katherine Brown (Charlottesville, Va./Covenant School) stopped three shots for the Eagles.
