AMHERST, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team finished its ODAC regular season schedule undefeated for the fifth straight season as the Generals defeated Sweet Briar, 30-11, 30-6, 30-7, on Wednesday evening.
W&L (26-3, 10-0) compiled a .667 hitting percentage (46 kills, 2 errors, 66 attempts) in the contest, a statistic which ties for the second-highest team hitting percentage in a three-game match in Division III history. Additionally, the win was W&L's 19th in a row, tying the school record set last season.
The Generals were paced by freshman outside hitter Alex Scaggs (West Chester, Pa./Unionville), who notched 13 kills in 17 attempts. Freshman outside hitter Jessica Ulrich (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) posted 10 kills and five service aces, while freshman middle blocker Abbey Wilson (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) registered eight kills in 11 attempts. Senior defensive specialist Virginia Baird (Houston, Texas/Lamar) added 14 digs, while sophomore setter Lauren Rudolph (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) amassed 37 assists and eight service aces.
The loss dropped Sweet Briar to 1-19 overall and 0-9 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
The Generals will return to action on Saturday as they compete in the Centre College Halloween Bash. W&L will play Oglethorpe at 10:00 am and Piedmont at 2:00 pm.
