LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Sophomore forward Jack Palmer (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) scored a pair of goals to lift Washington and Lee to a 2-1 win over Lynchburg in ODAC men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
Palmer opened the scoring just 10:46 into the game as he stole the ball from a defender and found the net. The Hornets (8-8, 3-6) knotted the game at 1-1 at the 54:10 mark as Brian Cocchiola took a rebounded shot and beat W&L sophomore goalkeeper Ted Sheedy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel). However, Palmer tallied the game-winner at the 84:40 mark, heading in a cross from senior midfielder Ryan Light (Clarksburg, W.Va./Robert C. Byrd).
Sheedy played all 90 minutes in goal for the Generals (8-5-2, 5-2-2), stopping three shots. Todd Perkins played the opening 45 minutes in goal for the Hornets, stopping three shots. He was spelled by Corey Zimmerman, who also notched three saves in the final 45 minutes.
