W&L Volleyball Hosts Generals Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team ran its current winning streak to 16 straight with a pair of wins in the first day of the Generals Classic on Friday evening at the Warner Center. W&L defeated St. Mary's (Md.), 30-12, 30-8, 30-21, before downing Maryville, 30-19, 30-27, 30-26.

In the win over St. Mary's (16-14), the Generals (23-3) were paced by freshman outside hitter Laura Maurer's (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) 10 kills and five digs. Junior libero Lauren Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted a team-high 12 digs and five service aces, while senior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) had a team-best 23 assists and six blocks.

In the victory over Maryville (20-13), Maurer notched 14 kills and five digs, while senior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) also tallied 14 kills and five blocks. Edmonson posted a team-high 19 digs, and Gladysz notched 37 assists and 10 digs.

The Generals return to action in tomorrow's final day of the Generals Classic. W&L hosts Elizabethtown at 1:00 pm and Roanoke at 3:30 pm.
