W&L Women's Soccer Defeats Roanoke, 3-1

SALEM, Va. -- Washington and Lee scored three second half goals to post a 3-1 victory over Roanoke in ODAC women's soccer action on Thursday afternoon in Salem, Va.

After a scoreless first half, the Maroons (4-6-3, 2-5-1) took a 1-0 lead at the 46:26 mark when freshman forward Tamara Alcalde scored off a pass from freshman forward Kristen McCoy. The Generals (9-1-2, 8-0-1) tied the game at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by freshman forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) at 50:16.

W&L then took a 2-1 advantage at the 71:51 mark on an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Kate Corr (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional). Less than six minutes later, sophomore forward Martha Caulkins (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) capped the scoring with an unassisted tally.

W&L outshot Roanoke, 21-3, and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

W&L freshman goalkeeper Kiki Moreo (Westport, Conn./Staples) played all 90 minutes and made three saves. Senior netminder Emma Jones also played the entire game and stopped eight shots for the Maroons.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday at Marymount. The game begins at 1:30 pm.
