W&L Women’s Basketball Downs Hollins, 66-41

HOLLINS, Va. -- Sophomore center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) tied a career-high with 26 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Washington and Lee women's basketball team to a 66-41 win over Hollins in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

The Generals (7-4, 4-3) jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the game's opening minutes and stretched their advantage to 18 points (28-10) later in the first half en route to a 38-26 halftime edge. W&L continued to pour it on in the second stanza, twice extending to a 25-point lead which proved to be the final margin.

W&L shot 45.9 percent from the floor, while Hollins shot just 28.1 percent, including 23.3 percent in the second half. The Generals also forced 24 HU turnovers and collected 15 steals.

Senior forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) tallied eight points, while senior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) posted five assists and five steals.

Hollins (4-5, 2-4) was paced by Brandi Cochran, who scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Roanoke for a 7:00 pm contest.
