W&L Women's Basketball Edged Out By Roanoke, 47-46

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior forward Chandra Forrester (Wytheville, Va./Rural Retreat) hit two free throws with no time remaining on the clock to give Roanoke a 47-46 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.

The Generals (10-9, 6-8) appeared to have the victory in hand after senior forward Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) gave W&L a 46-45 lead with seven seconds left on a pair of free throws. However, Forrester was fouled after junior guard Lindsay Reynolds (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) missed a last second desperation shot.

The Generals jumped out to a 9-4 lead with 16:47 left in the first half, but the Maroons (13-5, 9-5) went on a 12-6 over the next 10:06 to take their first lead of the game at 16-15. W&L closed out the half on a 10-7 spurt to take a 25-23 lead into halftime.

The Generals opened up a seven-point advantage at 36-29 with 13:21 remaining in the second half, but Roanoke tied the game at 36-36 at the 7:51 mark. W&L held a 44-41 edge with 1:18 remaining, but a three-pointer by sophomore guard Cindy McGraw (Lynchburg, Va./EC Glass) knotted the score at 44-44 with 54 seconds remaining.

W&L was led by sophomore center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./The Orme School), who scored a game-high 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) notched 11 points and dished out a game-high five assists, while senior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) added nine points.

McGraw led the Maroons with 12 points and Forrester had seven points and five rebounds.

The Generals return to the court on Tuesday at Eastern Mennonite. The game begins at 7:00 pm.
