HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney went 30-for-49 (.612) from the field, including 13-for-16 (.812) from beyond the arc, in defeating Washington and Lee, 85-54, in ODAC men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon in Hampden-Sydney, Va.
The Tigers (8-7, 3-5) stormed out to a 10-0 lead just 3:02 into the game and went into halftime with a 40-27 advantage.
The Generals (2-13, 0-8) pulled to within eight points at 42-34 with 17:21 remaining in the second half, but Hampden-Sydney went on an 18-1 run over the next 6:03 to take a 25-point lead at 60-35 and it would hold at least a 20-point lead for the remainder of the game.
W&L was led by freshman guard John Mumper (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman), who scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed four rebounds. Freshman forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tallied 10 points and four rebounds, while sophomore guard Chris Halkitis (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) had eight points, six rebounds, and five assists.
The Tigers had three players in double figures. Sophomore guard Kevin Forrester led the way with 16 points, including 4-for-5 from long range, while junior guard Matt Guill and freshman guard Drew Prehmus chipped in with 10 points apiece. Junior forward Aaron Lewek had seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
W&L returns to the court on Wednesday at 7:00 pm when it plays at Bridgewater.
