LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman Jesup Sataloff (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) went 2-0 to win the 174-pound weight class as the Washington and Lee wrestling team finished seventh out of eight teams at the W&L Wrestling Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Warner Center.
The University of Scranton took home the team title with 68 points, followed by Virginia Military Institute (59), Pensacola Christian College (55.5), Cumberland University (51.5), Maryville College (40), Washington & Jefferson University (37), W&L (32), and Southern Virginia University (5).
Sataloff, the number two seed, had a first round bye before winning his next two matches by major decision. He knocked off third-seeded Zach Padgett of Cumberland, 9-0, and then defeated top-seeded Matt Smith of Washington & Jefferson, 14-3, to claim the championship.
The other weight class champions were Rich Russell of Scranton (125 pounds), Chris Johnson of Pensacola Christian (133 pounds), Dave Glaser of Cumberland (141 pounds), Donell Young of Scranton (149 pounds), Steve McGettrick of Pensacola Christian (157 pounds), Dustin McCabe of VMI (165 pounds), Trevor Needham of Scranton (184 pounds), Ryan Wiles of Washington & Jefferson (197 pounds), and Luke Cumberland (285 pounds). McGettrick was named most outstanding wrestler.
The Generals return to the mat on Sat., Jan. 22 at the McDaniel Quad. The meet begins at 11:00 am.
