LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Lynchburg College opened up a 42-22 halftime lead and cruised to a 71-48 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.
With the game tied at 5-5 with 17:01 left in the first half, the Hornets (8-7, 5-3) went on a 16-0 run over the next 4:31 to take a 21-5 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the game.
The Generals (2-12, 0-7) were 17-for-50 (.340) from the field, including just 8-for-29 (.276) in the second half. Lynchburg was 27-for-63 (.429) from the floor and held a 45-34 advantage in rebounds.
W&L was led by freshman forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic), who scored a team-high 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting. Freshman guard John Mumper (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) tallied a career-high 13 points, while junior forward Matt Lawless (Williamsburg, Va./Bishop O'Connell) notched seven points and four rebounds.
Lynchburg received 14 points and five rebounds from senior forward Ryan Pehanick and got 11 points from sophomore guard Pete Manos.
W&L returns to the court on Sunday at 2:00 pm when it plays at Hampden-Sydney.
