SALEM, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 66-54 loss at Roanoke College on Tuesday evening.
The Generals (7-5, 4-4) trailed 28-21 at the break, but went on a 14-2 run late in the second half to tie the game at 49-49 with 3:47 remaining in the game. Roanoke reassumed the lead, but the Generals remained within striking distance and trailed just 54-52 with 1:45 remaining. However, the Maroons hit 12-of-14 free throws and closed the game on a 14-2 run to take the victory.
Free throws proved to be the difference in the game as Roanoke outscored the Generals 21-5 at the charity stripe.
W&L was paced by junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill), who totaled 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) also tallied 17 points and five boards, while sophomore forward Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) notched six points, a game-high eight rebounds and three blocks.
Roanoke (7-4, 3-4) was led by Erin Hanson's 19 points, five rebounds and five steals. Jennie Schafer chipped in 11 points in the winning effort.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday as it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 7:00 pm contest.
