MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- Freshman defender Haley Bunting (Bellaire, Texas/St. John's) scored a goal at 70:26 to lift the No. 23 Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Chowan College on Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro, N.C.
The Braves (3-4-2) got on the scoreboard first on a goal by junior Taura Jackson at the 18:24 mark. Freshman Casey Driver assisted on the goal and Chowan took its 1-0 lead into halftime.
After being held in check for about 65 minutes, the Generals (5-1-2) were able to find the back of the Braves net on a goal by sophomore forward Anne Wiltshire (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) at 66:05. Less than five minutes later, W&L captured the lead when freshman forward Shana Oltmans (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) fed Bunting, who fired it past Chowan junior goalkeeper Emily Warthan.
W&L senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) made two saves while Warthan stopped three shots for Chowan.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday at ODAC-foe Bridgewater. The game begins at 4:00 pm.
