ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team won both its matches on the second day of the Emory University Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. The Generals defeated Eastern University, 21-30, 30-20, 30-27, and 30-21 in their first match of the day. In their second match against King, W&L trailed two sets to none before coming back to win, 15-30, 29-31, 30-17, 30-28, 18-16.
Junior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep), who was named to the all-tournament team, recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 23 digs in the victory over Eastern (11-5). Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) notched 17 kills and junior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) tallied 11 kills and five total blocks. Junior middle blocker Taylor Gibson (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) added nine kills and seven total blocks.
Against King (8-8), Gladysz had another strong match with 18 digs and 56 assists while senior libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) notched a team-high 23 digs. Senior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) only played the final three games and tallied 18 digs and nine kills.
Washington and Lee (7-4) returns to the court on Wednesday at ODAC-rival Guilford. The match starts at 7:00 pm.
