ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee volleyball team lost both its matches on the opening day of the Emory University Invitational. The Generals were defeated by No. 22 Elmhurst, 27-30, 30-28, 23-30, 30-28, 13-15 in their opener before falling to No. 13 Emory, 22-30, 30-26, 15-30, 24-30 in their second match.
W&L senior outside hitter Emily Wolfing (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 26 digs in the five set loss to Elmhurst (9-3). Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Hurt (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Trinity Prep) notched 15 kills and junior middle blocker Susan Gaillard (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) had 14 kills. Senior libero Jennifer Lux (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox) added 17 digs, and junior setter Christine Gladysz (Palm Harbor, Fla./Berkeley Prep) registered 50 assists, 19 digs and six kills.
Against Emory (10-4), the Generals had two players notch a double-double. Wolfing had 20 kills and 20 digs while Gladysz has 45 assists and 12 digs. Lux chipped in with 16 digs.
Washington and Lee (5-4) returns to action on Saturday on the second day of the Emory University Invitational. The Generals hit the floor against Eastern at 2:00 pm.
