W&L Field Hockey Drops 5-2 Decision to Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Muhlenberg College rolled out to a 3-0 first-half lead en route to a 5-2 win over Washington and Lee in field hockey action on Saturday afternoon in Allentown, Pa.

Washington and Lee retaliated with a penalty stroke goal by junior midfielder S.B. Northen (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) with 24:23 remaining in the second half to cut the deficit to 3-1, but the Mules pushed back out to a 5-1 lead on a pair of late tallies.

Northen scored again for the Generals (0-2) with 2:30 remaining in the game, but it was not enough to lift W&L to its first victory of the season.

Juniors Elise Gelinas (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Agnes Irwin) and Courtney Harrison (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) both played in goal for the Generals, combining to make three saves.

Muhlenberg (4-2) was led by senior forward Kristen Bruschi, who scored the first three goals of the game. Sophomore forward Jessica Hand added one goal and one assist. Sophomore Lauren Schram and freshman Jennifer McDougall both played in goal for the Mules, posting two saves.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday as it travels to Catholic for a 12:00 pm contest.
