LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Washington and Lee women's soccer team played 110 minutes of soccer to earn a 1-1 tie against Centre College in its season opener on the first day of the Glen Hyundai Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Ky.
The Generals (0-0-1) took a 1-0 lead just 2:55 into the game when sophomore midfielder Blair Haws (Fort Worth, Texas/Trinity Valley) fired a shot past Colonels' goalkeeper, Erin Haney.
Less than 20 minutes later, Centre (1-0-1) evened the score at 1-1 on a goal by Katie McGinty. Her goal was assisted by Clay McCollum.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half or in the overtime periods.
Generals senior goalkeeper Emily Barker (Clifton, Va./Mount Vernon) and Haney both made two saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday against Transylvania University at 1:00 pm.
